Chocolate Covered Brussels

Belgium is best known for its chocolate, so it was natural that we spent a few hours in the Grand Sablon neighbourhood in Brussels where all the finest chocolate shops are found.  We visited Pierre Marcolini, Whitamer, Godiva, Leonidas, and Neuhaus to name a few.  Luckily I didn’t drop my delicous truffle over my new cream top.  I found this top at a vintage store in Gent for 4 euro!  I paired it with my Rich & Skinny dark jeans, gold necklace from Aldo Accessories, and my straw fedora from Joe Fresh ($10).  I think I have been eating too much chocolate on this trip, but when in Rome right? Back Alley Sally

While aimlessly strolling the streets of Gent, I came across this supa cool graffiti alley.  The city encourages people to spray their own works of art, and when there’s no room left they paint the walls white again for a fresh start.  Pretty cool idea if you ask me.  My dress came from a clothing store on College street in Toronto that no longer exists.  I was attracted to the leather detailing around the neckline.  I decided it looked best with flats and wore a simple black pair from Payless. My favourite aviator sunglasses came from my stylish grandfather. JD

Golden Girls

I spotted these two adorable old women in Brussels the other day and had to snap a photo.  I have been doing much of the same – sitting outside, drinking raspberry beer, getting into long-winded chats with a dear friend (minus the smoking).  Good friends are ridiculously priceless. JD

Uit In Gent

Yesterday was spent uit in Gent – translation – out in Gent, in Belgium! I took a boat ride in the canal, people watched at a cafe, and snapped more than a few shots of the picturesque buildings. I noticed a lot of girls sporting disheveled hair dos and vintage boots, and I particularly loved all the different colour doors on the buildings. I wore my Rich & Skinny jeans with a simple white linen shirt from H&M. It got a little wrinkled in my bag, but it’s a must-have shirt for traveling in my books. I ended the day eating typical Belgian fries which were delish and so filling. Yum! Next stop -Paris!! JD

European Extravaganza

Later today I’ll be jetting off to the continent I love most – Europa! I’ll be visiting friends in Amsterdam, Belgium – more specifically – Gent, Antwerp, Brussels, and then Paris! I’m so excited I can’t even think straight. I have the jitters like you would not believe. I get that way before trips. Christine will be holding the fort, but I will do my best to keep blogging about my budget adventures and outfits while I’m away so stay tuned…Bon Voyage mes amis! JD xx

First stop – Amsterdam – this song by Peter Bjorn and John is adding to my excitement…
